It happens sometimes... I am preparing for a message and feel an urge to talk about a specific issue. Today, in the midst of preaching through 1 John 2:28-3:10, I mentioned (of all things) digital piracy. I talked about it in the context of "guilt management." By guilt management, I mean the way we try to explain away our personal responsibility for sinful behavior so we don't feel as bad.
Anyway, back to this morning. It amazed me how many people came up to me afterward and shared some sort of story about digital piracy. One mother told me that this weekend (yes, this weekend) a boy spent the night with her son and told him about a program that he could use to download any song for free (they are 11 years old!). "It's wrong, but it's free" was his response to her son. Incidentally, that boy was in the service today as I challenged people to view illegal downloading for what it is: stealing. A friend of mine who is a programmer (BTW, you will see the game he and his team are working on in stores sometime this fall... I'll post about it) told me about how people steal his work off the web... sometimes even selling it to others! He never really thought about the implications of being a digital thief until it was happening to him.
It's amazing when the Spirit gives us an unction to do something... even more amazing when we obey...
